“Hội An or Đà Nẵng?” is a slightly strange question to a local, because the two places work as one. They share an airport, they are under an hour apart, and since Vietnam reorganised its provinces in 2025, Hội An has actually been part of Đà Nẵng city. The real question is not which one to visit — you will see both — but where to sleep.

The two places in one line each
- Hội An: a small, walkable old trading town with yellow houses, lanterns, tailors and some of the best food in the country — surrounded by rice fields and close to quiet beaches.
- Đà Nẵng: a modern, clean city with a long city beach, high-rise hotels, seafood restaurants, bridges lit up at night and the airport on its doorstep.
Who should stay where
| If you… | Stay in |
|---|---|
| Want charm, history and evening strolls | Hội An |
| Want a big beach right outside the hotel | Đà Nẵng |
| Are on a short trip with an early flight | Đà Nẵng |
| Love food and cooking classes | Hội An |
| Travel with kids who want a pool and the beach | Đà Nẵng (or a beach resort between the two) |
| Want a quiet, green, slow stay | Hội An, outside the old town |
| Want nightlife and rooftop bars | Đà Nẵng |
| Plan day trips to Huế and the Hải Vân Pass | Either — Đà Nẵng is slightly closer |
Where exactly to stay
In Hội An
- Old town edge: walk to the lanterns, but quieter than staying right in the centre.
- Cẩm Thanh and the rice fields: homestays and villas among the paddies, 10 minutes by bicycle from town.
- An Bàng / Cửa Đại beach: beach life with Hội An 10–15 minutes away.
In Đà Nẵng
- Mỹ Khê beach area: the classic choice — beach in front, restaurants behind.
- City centre by the Hàn River: close to markets and the bridges, cheaper hotels.
- Sơn Trà peninsula and the resort strip: for a quieter, more luxurious stay.

The split-stay plan
With four or five nights, try this: start in Hội An for two or three nights to enjoy the old town and countryside, then move to Đà Nẵng for the beach and an easy trip to the airport. The transfer takes about 45 minutes by car or ride app.
Good to know before you go
- Hội An old town ticket: visitors buy a ticket to enter the ancient town — currently 80,000₫ or 120,000₫ depending on how many monuments you want to see — and it covers your stay for up to three days. Keep it with you.
- Weather: February to August is the dry season; September to December brings heavy rain and sometimes floods, especially in Hội An’s old town.
- Getting between them: ride apps, taxis, private cars and shuttle buses all run between the two all day.
- Tailors: order early in your stay so there is time for fittings.
